State’s first university: Veer Narmad of Surat will teach ‘Hindu’ religion subject in South Gujarat University, starting from new academic session

                                                                                                                                                                                                          Narmad University will start a new postgraduate course in Hindu Studies from the new academic session. For the first time, Hinduism will be taught as a subject in the Arts Faculty, making VNSGU the first university in the state to offer such a course.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Syndicate member Dr. Snehal Joshi proposed to start a two-year course on Hindu studies in post graduation in MA Sociology Department. The two-year “Hindu Studies” course is currently offered by Banaras Hindu University in post-graduation in Arts from 2021-22.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          After discussion among the syndicate members, the proposal was accepted and later approved by all the members. The post-graduation course will now be taught in the university’s MA sociology department in the next academic year 2022-23.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Visiting faculty will be appointed in post graduation
The study will have a visiting faculty for the post graduation course. Syndicate member Dr. Snehal Joshi said that students will be able to understand the real concept of Hinduism. The focus will be on religion only, not on the worship of gods and goddesses. The course will cover Mahabharata, Ramayana, Veda and its relation to daily life.
