A tragic incident has taken place at the beginning of the new year. At least 12 people were killed and more than 14 others were injured in a stampede at the Vaishnodevi temple in Katra in Jammu and Kashmir at around 2.45 pm, three of them in critical condition. All the injured have been admitted to the local Narayan Hospital.
Most of the dead were from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, including two women. People present at the scene said that there was not enough security. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident. Modi said in a tweet that he was saddened by the loss of life in the stampede at Mata Vaishnodevi Bhavan. My condolences to the bereaved family. Compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased by the Union Government The
Prime Minister has discussed the incident with Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Union Minister Nityanand Rai and is monitoring the situation. The central government has provided Rs. 2 lakh and 50 thousand compensation to the injured.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Manoj Sinha has announced Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh to the injured. The cost of treatment of the injured will be borne by the Shrine Board.
