Insulting words uttered to ‘Babitaji’ 9 months ago were heavy, jail air in Haryana

‘Taraq Mehta Ka Ulta Chashma’ fame Babita alias actress Moonmoon Dutta reached Hansi police station in Haryana on Monday. Investigating officer DSP Vinod Shankar appeared in the case registered on the remarks on Scheduled Castes. Investigators, meanwhile, formally arrested him and released him on interim bail after a three-and-a-half-hour interrogation. SP Nitika Gehlot also questioned Moonmoon Dutta.

The police administration had set up heavy police cordon at the SP office as part of the precaution. Moonmoon Dutta, accompanied by two security personnel and bouncers, reached the DSP’s office on the orders of the High Court counsel. Meanwhile, Moonmoon Dutta did not speak to any media. A case was filed against Moonmoon Dutta under SC-ST Act on 13 May 2021 by Rajat Kalsan, a Dalit officer activist from Hansi.

Moonmoon Dutta had applied to the Supreme Court to quash the case registered against him and the application was rejected on September 22, 2021. Moonmoon Dutta’s anticipatory bail application was rejected on January 28 by a special court set up under the SC-ST Act in Hisar.

He then took refuge in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and asked High Court Judge Avanish Moonmoon Dutta to appear before the investigating officer in Hansi on February 4. The investigating officer was directed to submit the investigation report to the High Court on February 25.

On January 9 last year, Moonmoon Dutta was accused of posting a video on YouTube and making derogatory remarks against the Scheduled Castes. Rajan Kalsan, a Dalit officer activist from Hansi, had filed a case against Munmun Dutta under the SC-ST Act in Hansi, Thane. Earlier, he had also filed a case against cricketer Yuvraj Singh and actress Yuvika Chaudhary. These cases are being heard. Actress Yuvika has also come to Hansi police station.
