After initiation and stabilization of the scheme, the scheme may be extended to cover all infants for up to one year. As of Oct-09 284 private paediatricians have been registered and 31151 newborns attended under Bal Sakha Yojana.

Babies born with low birth weight are referred to NICs by pediatricians in private hospitals. If they are admitted to the U for treatment, the state government will bear the cost of treatment of these children and accommodation of their mother or a relative along with Rs 7000 per day or Rs 49000 for seven days.
