All babies born to BPL mothers in the state (around 3,00,000 births per year) will be covered for neonatal care by participating pediatricians including care in their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Level 2) at no cost to the beneficiary. After initiation and stabilization of the scheme, the scheme may be extended to cover all infants for up to one year. As of Oct-09 284 private paediatricians have been registered and 31151 newborns attended under Bal Sakha Yojana.

Benefits available under the scheme

Babies born with low birth weight are referred to NICs by pediatricians in private hospitals. If they are admitted to the U for treatment, the state government will bear the cost of treatment of these children and accommodation of their mother or a relative along with Rs 7000 per day or Rs 49000 for seven days.
